Tết Nguyên Đán

Tết Nguyên Đán

Tết Nguyên Đán, also known as Vietnamese Lunar New Year, or simply shortened as Tet will next year (2021) be at February 12th. The same goes for Chinese New Year.

With Tet being in the middle of February importers should carefully plan their shipments from Vietnam. The same as for shipments from China.

A large part of February companies will be less active this time of year since people use to travel to visit family and friends. This will already start a week before Lunar New Year. Celebrations will last for at least one week. Only by the end of February most companies will resume working in Vietnam and China.

Subsequently shipments from China and Vietnam will only be marginal during February. This means for instance that the new crop pepper from Vietnam will only start to have significant shipments from March onwards, for arrival in Europe and the Americas in April only.

Next to the foreseen low activity during February we are most likely still suffering from the global container shortage and vessel availability.

During December most companies are starting to make preparations to close their books and opening them again next year. We suggest you to check out your positions and requirements carefully before closing them.
